WCCP-Michigan-picsA truly grand building, the Michigan Theatre was constructed in 1926, with beautiful chandeliers and marble sculptures. Detroit, famous for its car industry was experiencing a boom in the 20s and this theatre turned car park was actually the site where Henry Ford constructed his first car. In 1976, the theatre closed its doors for the final time and was scheduled to be demolished.

When it was discovered that this would cause stability issues with adjacent buildings, engineers came upon a solution to remove the mezzanine and balcony and create a three-level parking garage.

The Michigan Theatre is a unique example of a car park being constructed from a structure that was never intended for this purpose
